Did video really kill the radio star? TV was supposed to kill radio, too. The internet was supposed to cut the high street’s throat and knacker the newspaper industry. Now, apparently, portable ebook readers are set to destroy the printed book. It’s slash and burn. Or is it?
More than two decades in direct marketing, observing new media and marketing methods hit the scene, means I think not. You wouldn’t want to read your Amazon Kindle in the bath, for a start. It’s another way to enjoy books, just as the internet is another way to shop and DVDs an alternative to the cinema. Every new medium or way of consuming media simply adds more choice to the mix.
