You’ve got to love the English language
English is magically illogical at times.
My favourite at the moment is ‘quite’. Quite can mean either ‘a little bit’ or ‘completely’. “He is quite mad” means he’s totally hatstand. But it can also mean he’s not particularly mad at all.
In a situation like this context, inflection and emphasis are everything. I’m just glad English is my first language and I don’t have to cope with learning its endless crazy vagaries as an adult.
